Biography:
Arrah Nicoli was born in Romania to Vladamir Nicoli and Elisabeta Romani Nicoli, a witch and wizard of ancient wizarding families. Vladamir’s marriage to Elisabeta effectively ended the Romani bloodline as she was the last direct descendant and had no other living siblings. When Arrah was born, it will end up she also will be the last of the Nicoli line. Though always adored by her father, Arrah knew her father wished for a son to carry his name through the next generations but her mother bore no other children. Elisabeta died when Arrah was five, leaving it up to her father to raise her.
Despite loosing her mother at a young age, Arrah was a happy child though often temperamental. Her father spoiled her, giving her anything she wished and this often lead to displays of temper when she didn’t get her own way. But two things Arrah loved will always distract her from displays of temper, the magical creatures her father bred and trained and the study of magic.
Before the various European Ministries of Magic agreed to ban the breeding of dragons for sport and recreation, the Nicoli family were famous for the quality of their dragon kennels. Fast and quick racing type breeds designed for aerial racing, sturdy and vicious pit fighting monsters, the Nicoli family produced the best. But with the ban in effect, restricting all such breeding save conservative breeding by licensed breeders nearly bankrupted the Nicoli family. However they found other sources of revenue. Moving to the training of other magical creatures not as heavily controlled by international law or the local ministry, the Nicoli was able to recover much of their losses.
But as generations went by, less and less Nicoli were born and many turned out to be squibs. Most of these squibs were murdered once they reached their early teens and it was obvious they will never be magical. Most of this dark history Arrah only learned when she inherited her father’s estate as the last direct descendent of the Nicoli Family.
When Arrah turned 11 she was accepted into Durmstrang where she thrived in the magical environment. All her teachers had nothing but praise for her academic achievements, even if she would get into trouble for displays of temper. Arrah’s thirst for magical power was rivaled only by her love of magical creatures and learning how to breed them to get a desired result. Towards the end of her schooling, Arrah heard about the dark wizard terrorizing the UK and found him fascinating. As soon as she came of age and graduated from Durmstrang, she traveled to Britain to find this Dark Wizard.
She did find him and one look at his power and Arrah swore her allegiance. He gave her a very difficult task to perform and she succeeded and became his eyes and ears within the Ministries Auror Corps training department. Though she schooled outside of Britain she applied and gained acceptance to train as an Auror. There was a real shortage of recruits for Aurors to replace the losses the Ministry suffered. For the first two years of training required to become an Auror, Arrah fed information from inside to Voldemort, information about how Auror’s were trained, what they knew about the Dark Arts and how to combat them which wasn’t taught in school, how they operate and what sort of techniques they used and more importantly the identities of the soon to graduate Aurors.
With this information Arrah earned her Dark Mark, probably one of the last to do so before Voldemort faced off against the Potters and lost his powers. A month after she gained her Dark Mark, Arrah resigned from Auror training and gave no explanation. Just that she will no longer continue training. It wasn’t long after she quit Auror training that Arrah did receive her dark mark and met some of her fellow Death Eaters. For the most part she is unknown to all by the most senior and oldest Death Eaters, and only a few others. None, however, did Arrah consider friends enough to really get to know, or for them to know her. When the Dark Lord himself fell when trying to kill the child Harry Potter, Arrah found herself as confused as the bulk of her fellow Death Eaters. To avoid the Auror round up and the more extreme reactions of more powerful Death Eaters, Arrah laid low, relying on the fact so few knew she was a Death Eater, to keep her above suspicion. Not long after the Dark Lord fell, she received bad news.
She received a message from her father and hurried back to Romania to find him on his death bed. Barely a week after she returned home, Arrah found herself an orphan and heiress of a large estate that was financially unstable. For nearly ten years Arrah concentrated on ensuring her inheritance wouldn’t fall into total ruin. Being a clever and cunning witch Arrah was able to deal with the family dept, mostly resulting in decisions her father made unwisely due to false information fed to him by disloyal retainers. Arrah dealt with these employees coldly and efficiently. In a decade of hard work Arrah stabilized her family’s estate and it was once more making money.
When the Dark Lord rose again, Arrah left her estate in the capable hands of a trusted friend to return to Britain. Presenting herself to the Dark Lord she once more swore her loyalty. It seemed his power was greater than ever before and once more Arrah was enthralled by it. It was disappointing that she could not gain his trust sufficiently to learn more magic from him. Arrah had always found the Dark Arts truly fascinating and worked hard to master what spells she could get her hands on. However, she could not rise up in the Death Eater ranks as fast as she wished, though she never failed him. Like most Death Eaters, including nearly all the senior follows of the Dark Lord, Arrah had not even considered the possibility her master was still alive after his defeat by the hands of a child. Her family concerns pushed the Dark Lord completely out of her mind. It was only when she felt the Dark Mark burning on her arm did she remember her dark lord.
After the Ministry fiasco that resulted in the capture of many Death Eaters, Arrah found herself more in the spotlight. The Dark Lord sent her to recruit followers outside of Britain, a task she took willingly. She managed to gain the loyalty of several old European pureblood families and brought them over to the Dark Lord. This mission kept her away from Britain during the bulk of the Dark Lord’s second reign of terror and much to her dismay, to far away to aid her Lord when he was attacked and defeated by Harry Potter and his allies. She did however feel his fall, as the Dark Mark upon her arm burned and faded, then vanished completely.
Struck with the blow of loosing a wizard she served faithfully for so long, Arrah remained in Romania, in her family estate. She concentrated on her other love in life, the training and breeding of magical creatures, especially griffons and similar sized beasts. Though traditionally her family was known for its breeding of dragons, the outlaw on breeding dragons prevented her from continuing the tradition. Throughout her family estate were the signs of being famous for the breeding of dragons used in defense, combat and sport, including the Romanian Long Horn.
Unable to breed dragons, the Nicoli family turned to other magical creatures. Arrah choose to concentrate on griffons and other guardian and mountable beasts though she didn’t restrict herself to just these animals. Wanting to start a new life away from the remote mountains of her family home, Arrah decided to return to the UK.
A few months after the anniversary of the Dark Lord’s final defeat, Arrah returned to Britain and purchased a small store front in Diagon Alley. During her previous stays in Britain, Arrah had purchased and renovated a tower near the southern shores of England. It was an old lighthouse which she modernized, created extensive dungeons beneath it, magically protected from the ground waters from seeping into the Tower’s foundations and here she created many rooms and labs to continue her experiments. She also purchased a large parcel of land around the tower and magically protected it so Muggles couldn’t see what was within the grounds, other than the old lighthouse. They could not see the special stables and corrals where Arrah kept several kinds of magical beasts she trained, mostly hippogriffs, griffons, and other similar sized or smaller magical creatures favored by the rich Purebloods and aristocrats who liked the ideal of having a monstrous guardian for their manors or a unique mount or pet. Though Arrah didn’t breed them in the UK she imported some from her stables in Romania left in charge with trusted servants and a few cousins who were related by blood if not by name. Most were the offspring of her father’s sisters, married off to other Pureblood families.
Only recently has Arrah opened her shop doors to the public, “Composite Companions’ located in Diagon Alley. It is a small store front where she keeps a small collection of smaller magical creatures, such as crubs, fire crabs, exotic species of frogs and toads, various snakes and other smallish creatures. However she blatantly advertises with pictures the larger creatures she can train and provide on special order.
Opening a shop in Diagon Alley is only a small part of Arrah’s overall plans. Though she considers herself quite an accomplished witch her skills are more above average, though she truly does excel in training magical creatures. She has a natural affinity for animals, often displaying tenderness towards them she rarely displays for her fellow witches or wizards. She also has a strong sense of family pride and it pains her deeply that she is the last Nicoli and she has no brothers to carry on her father’s name. Losing her family name is one reason she has delayed marrying a good pureblood wizard. She also wants to increase her own personal popularity and has started to make donations to various charities to bring her name in prominence. However she is only just starting this process and is currently looking for more ways to promote not only herself but her business as well. She is also in the process of writing books about the creatures she works with in the hopes of getting some published someday.
Though Arrah enjoyed serving as a Death Eater and still has a thirst for the Dark Arts that leaves her constantly thirsty for more, she has been doing her best to maintain an image of a good law abiding resident of the British Isles. As she has no record of any law breaking she intends to keep it that way, thus any illegal activity she conducts, she does it as secretly as possible. Currently these dodgy activities are mostly her research in the Dark Arts and some experimental breeding.
